About & Submission Policy

Gazette84 began as a straightforward cataloguing exercise: to assemble, in one navigable location, a reference record of active English-language and international websites sorted by subject. The directory takes its name from the printed gazette, the official or semi-official record that governments and publishers have used for centuries to register facts about the world. Gazette84 applies that tradition to the web: rather than ranking results by algorithm or commercial arrangement, it presents entries in neutral subject sections for readers to browse at their own discretion. The index currently spans twenty-two sections and records 832 active sites. Subject divisions range from the legal and medical to the agricultural, commercial, and cultural. New sections are not added lightly; the existing twenty-two cover the great majority of web-based commerce and information that readers seek. Submissions are accepted without charge through the Add a Site form. The directory's editors review each submission for basic authenticity — that the site is live and matches the proposed category — before adding it to the record. There is no premium placement and no advertising within listings. Gazette84 is maintained as a public reference resource, updated on an ongoing basis as new submissions are reviewed and approved.
